Lickenbrock® was founded in 2006 when AutoQuant Imaging, Inc.® was purchased by Roper Industries. AutoQuant developed and sold advanced image processing and visualization software for 3D light microscopic imaging. Lickenbrock follows the tradition of AutoQuant by researching and developing advanced imaging, analysis and visualization software. Lickenbrock carries out contracted R&D for industrial clients, the Department of Defense, Air Force, and other goverment agencies. For example, we have been a part of the Small Business Innovation Research Program (SBIR).

Lickenbrock conducts scientific research that is aimed at developing future cutting-edge technologies. Lickenbrock patents and publishes R&D work. We collaborate with other technology and product developers and R&D specialists. Some of our work is presented in conference proceedings and journal publications. Recent publications include 3D Widefield Light Microscope Image Reconstruction Without Dyes and Label-Free Nondestructive Imaging of Vascular Network Structure in 3D culture. One of our well-known publications is Automated Software Analysis of Corneal Micrographs for Peripheral Neuropathy.

Private Industry R&D

Lickenbrock Technologies develops software and systems for private industry. Past contracts have involved image processing and analysis software modules developed for Heidelberg Engineering Gmbh, including analysis modules for optical coherence tomography (OCT) and the scanning laser ophthalmoscope. Lickenbrock’s expertise is in all areas of image processing and image analysis - including 2D, 3D, hyperspectral and others. Monitoring Growing Samples for Tissue Engineering
_____________________________________

Lickenbrock utilized its expertise in 3D deconvolution and 3D image analysis to design, build and test a complete prototype system for monitoring live cultured samples for tissue engineering applications. While growing such samples, fluorescent dyes and other exogenous contrast agents need to be avoided due to toxicity, cell-behavior modifications, and other invasive problems. The system relies on newly developed deconvolution algorithms that work without dyes, and work with modalities such as phase contrast, darkfield, and brightfield. This project was completed for the U.S. Office of the Secretary of Defense.
Hyperspectral Retina Camera
_____________________________________

Lickenbrock Technologies conducted a feasibility study for the U.S. Air Force into the future development of a specialized retina camera with hyperspectral imaging capabilities. The system design of the camera was completed, optical hardware of a breadboard system was built and testing of the imaging capabilities was completed. New algorithms were designed that would assist in the identification of damage of the retina when exposed to laser radiation.
Nondestructive Testing
_____________________________________

Lickenbrock Technologies develops software for nondestructive testing under contract for the U.S. Air Force. The software computes and displays computed tomography images from high-energy x-ray computed tomography scanners. The software processes the CT data to eliminate artifacts caused by many sources, such as beam hardening. It produces fast iterative image reconstructions of high resolution and 3D views of the inspected aerospace components.
Monitoring the Photoreceptor Layer for Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)

Lickenbrock conducted an ongoing research and development project for detecting, measuring and monitoring the photoreceptor layer of the retina using optical coherence tomography (OCT). More specifically, the inner segment ellipsoid (ISE) layer of the photoreceptors was automatically detected and measured. The project has important implications into the study and understanding of the behavior of AMD, and into the monitoring and treatment of AMD disease conditions. This project was funded by an SBIR grant from the NIH.
